Blog #3 - BLOOKET!

We used Blooket in a scenario where we would be reviewing the math concept of angles in our geometry unit to a group of grade 4 students.

Reasons why we chose this app:

  • A fun way to review any concepts through a variety of game mode options that allow students to choose whichever one is more suitable for their learning.
  • Blooket can be used as a class or individually. It is also an app that can be used on a tablet, computer, and Smartboard.
  • Teachers can create their own questions in the app or use ones that have already been created and shared by other teachers.
  • Students can use this app at home during their own time as they will have access to the questions when logged in to their own accounts
  • This can be used as a break from the traditional learning structure in class but at the same time students are still learning but in a fun way!

Cons that we discovered:

  • Competitiveness and excitement could be a distraction when using Blooket as a whole class review. Teachers should set expectations before playing Blooket so students understand that they will need go stay on stay while having fun.
  • Once students have gone through all the questions, students may just play the game for fun. It would be good if there were multiple sets of different questions for students.

I would like to use Blooket in my classroom in the future as I believe students of all ages would enjoy this app. I can use this as a review game or give students the option to use the app during their breaks as it is still helping them learn. I like how this app is similar to Kahoot but gives you more options for game play. It is also a good app for differentiation as teachers can add visuals and audio for students who need or want that option.

Comments

  1. I agree with you!! Blooket was similar to Kahoot, but offered more fun options! And I think that it can serve a purpose. It can be a bit of work for teachers if we want to use very specific information, but I think that the pre made decks could be good for students to use and just play. It is a fun app that serves a purpose, as long as we don't rely on it! Once we get too comfortable with something it looses it's value. We, as educators, need to rely on our knowledge and ability to grow throughout our career in order to help our students to grow.
